Learn Why We Need Magnesium

Magnesium is the fourth most abundant mineral in the body and needed for at least 300 biochemical reactions.  Needless to say, it’s critical.  About half of all magnesium in the body is found in bone, the rest in tissues and organs.  In recent years, there has become increased interest in the role of magnesium in managing disorders such as ADD/ADHD, hypertension, high blood pressure and many other illnesses.  The National Institute of Health has stated that magnesium may be protective against disorders such as cardiovascular disease and immune dysfunction.

Maintaining less than the recommended amount of magnesium can lead to a magnesium deficiency.  This deficiency can have serious effects and lead to illness.  The types of conditions one may develop as a result of magnesium deficiency are:

  • muscle and bone issues such as osteoporosis and chronic fatigue
  • cardiovascular issues such as cardiac arrhythmia
  • increased symptoms of pre-menstrual syndrome
  • mental issues such as depression
  • neurological issues such as sensitivity to noise
  • endocrine issues that lead to the formation of diabetes
